According to Quantcast, Technorati is the hands down traffic leader in comparison with Google Blog Search.
Monthly US Traffic According to Quantcast (September 2007)
Technorati – 1.4 Million
Google Reader – 500,000
I usually do not trust the actual numbers associated with traffic measurement web sites like Quantcast and Alexa, however it’s obvious to tell that even if the numbers were off by ten percent either way, Technorati would still be ahead considerably. Also not taken into account was the number of searchers who use Google and expect blog entries to be present in their results. That said, it’s still hard to argue the dominance.
I checked these numbers because although I use Technorati, I was curious to find out how it was being used by casual users. According to Quantcast, the site is most popular among hispanic males between the ages of 35 and 54. It seems a bit odd that Quantcast has the ability to measure so many different variables like race and age. I plan on doing some more investigation in this area.
In closing, I think it’s a hard to determine, which service is actually better. It just depends how you want your results served. I recommend trying out both search engines to see which one serves your needs better.
