When Non-technologists Write, Jamie Lynn, Best of 2007 and More

Sharing links and recommending reading is a nice thing to do. Although having that as a title doesn’t do much for my own search results, thus I will no longer use a boring title. I hope you check one of these out.

Does Microsoft Hate Your Blog?Search Engine Roundtable
Microsoft applied for a patent to “restrict the results for queries to be from blog pages.” Opposite Google’s approach.

2007 In Review: Best of the BestMashable
2007 was a big year in the Internet world. We had the introduction of open social networks, do-it-yourself social networks, wide spread broadband adoption, more animal viral videos and much much more.

When non-technologists write about technologyBlog.pmarca.com
The only thing funnier than when a non-technologist writes nonsense about technology is when a technologist rips that same non-technologist.

Pregnant Jamie Lynn Speaks Out - YouTube

Mike Huckabee Commercial: Is it a Cross?

Receiving more attention than it probably should, the big question surrounding Mike Huckabee’s latest presidential campaign commercial is whether a book shelf in the background was strategically lit to subliminally look like a cross?

Although Huckabee has denied anything subliminal, from an advertisers perspective I think the producers were well aware what they were doing. I’ll let you be the judge by watching the video below.

Google Profiles to Trump Facebook

Up to this point, Google has unsuccessfully competed against MySpace and Facebook in the coveted social networking market space. It now appears that they have a plan with Google Profiles.

The plan calls for the users of their services, like Blogger and Gmail, to create universal profiles. This rather unassuming approach is how most social networking experts thought Google would enter into the social networking ring.

To encourage profile creation, I would be willing to bet that the user profiles will rank highly within Google’s organic search results. Thus, people who want to control their online reputation will be baited into creating a profile. A report released yesterday by the Pew Internet and American Life Project showed just us just how important this is to Americans. It suggested that 47 percent of U.S. adult Internet users have looked for information about themselves on Google or another search engine.

That will be a huge advantage for Google, who unlike other startup social networks won’t have to invest a lot of money on attracting and retaining an established user base.

I’m not going to call this a Facebook “killer, ” but it is much more a threat than OpenSocial and “the Beacon scandal” ever were.

Sean Kingston Lights it up with Branded Music

Sean Kingston created “Gotta Move Faster” to promote Intel Centrino processors. This is unchartered territory given that Kingston and Intel released the song on the Internet without a lot of paid advertising around it.

Virally the song has been viewed 320,000 times on MySpace and another 45,000 times on YouTube. The key to this type of exposure in my opinion is the authenticity of the music. It is actually a pretty good song with a nice beat and hook. I have to admit the first few times I listened to the song, I had no idea Intel had any involvement.

Watch the video below and see if you can tell:

Intel is donating its profits from sales of the single and ring tones to the Intel® Computer Clubhouse Network, an after-school community-based technology learning program that enables youth in underserved communities to acquire tools necessary for personal and professional success.
