Politics, Google and the Economy

Google Drops More Than 160 PointsJohn Battelle’s Searchblog
I wouldn’t be too worried if I owned a lot of stock in Google. Think if just one television station dominated the airwaves like Google dominates search. They’ll be fine!

Majerus abortion rights comment gets St. Louis bishop’s attention - ESPN
Rick Majerus’s job is to coach basketball at St. Louis University, a jesuit university. Therefore I can understand their cause for concern, when their most recognizable staff member says something that goes against the university’s teachings. A lesson learned here is that an employee always represents their employer, not matter where they are.

Study: False statements preceded warAssociated Press
The study accuses the president and his administration of some pretty tough allegations. The study done by two nonprofit journalism organizations “found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.”

Obama & Hillary Mudslinging during South Carolina Democratic DebateYoutube
I’m glad Obama finally got some things off of his chest. For a while it seemed as though he was on the receiving end of a lot of Clinton rhetoric.

Obama vs. a Two-Headed Monster

I apologize – The Clintons are not really monsters, but they are extremely tough on the campaign trail.

Since Hillary’s loss in Iowa, I’ve noticed a much louder and more assertive former president. This it seems has helped Hillary rally, especially in New Hampshire, where it looked like she would lose handily.

With Bill taking on more of an assertive role, I have to ask myself - if by voting for Hillary, am I voting for Bill as well? To most Americans, this is a great thing. Bill reminds them of the good old days, pre 911.

But for me, a 25-year-old male, it’s tough to remember the good old days during the height of the first dot-com boom. All I know is that we live in an America that is divided, and even worse, we live in a world that is filled with hate for America.

That’s why I’m excited by the new face of politics that Barack Obama brings to the world and the Democratic Party. Respecting our enemy as if they are our friend is an approach I can respect as America strives to regain trust amongst co-existing nations. With Obama at the helm, I believe we will have stronger allies and a better shot at waging war against future terrorist cells.

I haven’t always been sure of my endorsement of Obama, but I’ve kept a close eye on the campaign trail. Thus I have seen the Clintons’ work their magic. Needless to say, that magic turns me off to the game of politics as usual.

Take for example, the Hillary’s struggle with African-American voters. Recent polls have shown that she has fallen considerably behind Obama. She even administered the help of Bob Johnson, the ceo of Black Entertainment Television. During a speech, he ruthlessly bashed Obama for trying marijuana as a teen. If he has such a problem with that, why air music videos that promote smoking and getting high?

In addition, Clinton supporters filed a lawsuit against caucuses being held at Casinos. At first, I thought the Clintons could deny any involvement. However, when Bill was asked about it he became very offensive. Such a strong denial showed me that he had some strong convictions about the situation. I find it amusing how no one in the party had a problem with it until Obama won the support of the unions that work at the casinos.

That lawsuit and the ensuing outburst was the straw that broke the camel’s back and spurned me to write this article.

On the Go Woody Wire, this is Woody saying, “Go Obama.”

2008 Presidential Campaign Videos Worth Watching (Part 1)

I love watching the messaging and game playing during the political season. Here are a few of the most mememorable and talked about videos, I’ve seen watched so far. I’m sure there will be many more, so I’ll try to post more of the best in 2-3 weeks.

Michelle Obama Enters the Race Fray  – TalkLeft
“Obama is black. Hillary is a woman. Those are facts beyond change. Neither one qualifies or disqualifies them from being President. Let’s accept it, welcome the diversity and move on.” I couldn’t agree more with TalkLeft’s assessment of recent bickering going back and forth between Obama and Hillary. I hope the candidates focus more on solving real issues.

Does this remind anyone else of the movie, “Bulworth?”
