Website Design Freedom Benefits

It has been nearly a month since I last blogged. A lot of things have kept me busy during that time, including starting a new marketing job, as well as creating a new web site for a Minneapolis home remodeling company, Ark Construction, Inc.

This was my first time creating a web site from stratch. I had previous experience in design, which allowed me to create sites on existing platforms like Ning, WordPress and Blogger. However, this was first time I felt like I was in total control.

A few benefits of creating the site on my own include:

  • The ability to create an xml site map, allowing me to let Google and Yahoo! know which pages on the site are of the greatest importance.
  • The ability to hook up the site with Google Analytics. This allows the client to view the site statistics in real time. They can also use it in the future if they are interested in buying keywords.
  • No more extra source code baggage, which comes with creating a site on another platform.
  • The ability to customize the meta keywords and description on each page.
Now, by no means am I done working on the site. It takes a fair amount of time and maintenance to build links and search engine rankings.

Politics, Google and the Economy

Google Drops More Than 160 PointsJohn Battelle’s Searchblog
I wouldn’t be too worried if I owned a lot of stock in Google. Think if just one television station dominated the airwaves like Google dominates search. They’ll be fine!

Majerus abortion rights comment gets St. Louis bishop’s attention - ESPN
Rick Majerus’s job is to coach basketball at St. Louis University, a jesuit university. Therefore I can understand their cause for concern, when their most recognizable staff member says something that goes against the university’s teachings. A lesson learned here is that an employee always represents their employer, not matter where they are.

Study: False statements preceded warAssociated Press
The study accuses the president and his administration of some pretty tough allegations. The study done by two nonprofit journalism organizations “found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.”

Bush, Lawmakers Are Close to Deal on Stimulus PackageWashington Post
The economy is in need of some major help and I have to say that a lot of the Ron Paul videos about spending are hard to ignore.

Obama & Hillary Mudslinging during South Carolina Democratic DebateYoutube
I’m glad Obama finally got some things off of his chest. For a while it seemed as though he was on the receiving end of a lot of Clinton rhetoric.
